Will Guthrie – 6 Days into 8 [CS]

7.50

Label: Careful Catalog

Format: Cassette

Year: 2018

In February of 2018, Will Guthrie went on an eight day tour of Japan. The sixth set of solo drums and percussion took place at Environment 0g in Osaka. At this point in the tour, Will found himself in the sweet spot of being primed by the nightly ritual of intense physical performance, while the mental fatigue of being on the road offered him the opportunity to exploit an abridged route from thought to sound. The result documented here is a half hour of multiplying speedbag workouts, near anxiety inducing pattern weaving, circular blasts of thuggish gamelan, and quiet valleys of organic texture. 6 Days into 8 is raw evidence of seasoned improviser with a singular style playing at his most direct and still delivering a set full of surprises and adrenaline. Pitched by Will as “rough and nasty" and an ideal candidate for a tape release a few weeks after the performance, it is now available for purchase in a fancy letterpress cover thanks to Ben Owen at middle press.
